There are many times in life when it’s ok to make mistakes….proposing isn’t one of those times. As both brides and grooms know, getting engaged is a life-altering, momentous occasion. It’s a moment you will remember forever, a story you will share again and again, and a family tale that will be told from one generation to the next.
And it all begins with the proposal.
Whether you choose to go over the top or plan something a little more intimate, remember to keep your partner in mind at all times. Often times, the best proposals aren’t the ones that are flashy and over-the-top; the best proposals are the ones that are personal and heartfelt. Incorporating inside jokes, special moments and your partner’s favorite items can take an ordinary proposal to the next level.
For those of you who are not natural romantics at heart, we’ve come up with a list of proposal ideas designed to help you get in touch with your lovey-dovey side, and leave your significant other speechless.
1. Scavenger hunt: Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned scavenger hunt? Recreate your dating history by sprinkling clues all over town that lead to your favorite spots as a couple. End it at the very first place you met on your knee, ring in hand.
2. Time Capsule: A time capsule is a great way to safekeep treasures, and it’s an even better way to propose. Incorporate a time capsule into your proposal by filling it with cherished mementos of the two of you. Just before you bury it, turn to your partner and say, “It’s missing something….a picture of us on the day we got engaged.” Then pull out the ring and wait for the tears to pour. And don’t forget to take a picture afterward!
3. Personalized Puzzle : Buy a personalized puzzle that creates a picture of the two of you with words “marry me” spelled out underneath. Then spend an evening with your partner putting it together. The best thing about this proposal idea is that you have a nice memento to hang on your wall to remember the occasion years from now.
4. Sweet Surprise: Buy your sweetheart of box of chocolates and replace one of the chocolates with a ring. Chances are he or she will think it’s just another sweet gesture on your part….until they open the box. Be prepared to present the ring and all the reasons why you can’t imagine your life without them.
While each proposal idea is amazing on its own, we suggest putting your own unique spin on whichever one you end up choosing. Adding in that extra special touch will make your partner fall in love with you all over again.
