Sakamoto appeared on the jewelry scene in Los Angeles in 1979. Since it was an exciting and innovative time, there was a resurgence of interest in uniqueness and quality. A new designer movement was to begin and these young men and women were destined to be collected as were the works of Tiffany and Cartier. Sakamoto is a third generation Japanese American describing himself as a minimalist and is challenged to create jewelry where less is more. He likes to work in platinum and 18k gold because they take on strong sensual shapes, can curve, bend and arc gracefully. Both feminine and masculine in form like yin/yang.
